Air India Express opens reservation for flights to Singapore from Madurai

Air India Express, the profitable subsidiary of national carrier Air India has started accepting reservations for flights between Madurai and Singapore. The flights would operate four times a week starting 15th September 2017. The flights between Madurai and Singapore would operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays while the return flights would operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The flights would depart at 2215hours from Madurai and land in Singapore at 0615hours while the return flights would depart at 1040 hours and arrive in Madurai at 1225hours. The airline already operates flights to Singapore from neighboring Trichy, state capital Chennai and Kolkata.

The aircraft would be based at its newly established hub of New Delhi and the airline will operate nonstop flights between New Delhi and Madurai before the onward international flight to Singapore. This will be the first non-stop between New Delhi and Singapore, a route which has seen one stop flights by all airlines operating to Madurai. Last season, Jet Airways launched first non-stop between Madurai and Mumbai.

Madurai is the third busiest airport in Tamil Nadu and has been late in attracting International flights, primarily due to restrictions in bilateral rights. Spicejet had started international services in 2012 with flights to Colombo and since then also connected Dubai with Madurai. Sri Lankan is the only foreign airline which operates to Madurai and has services to its hub Colombo. The Airports Authority of India controlled airport has a single runway of 2285m. Air India, Jet Airways, Spicejet and IndiGo operate to Madurai.

Air India Express is the Low Cost arm of National carrier Air India and operates primarily from Southern part of India to gulf along with flights to Singapore and Dhaka. It has a fleet of 23 B737-800 aircraft, each with a different design on the tail.
