National carrier Air India opened reservations for flights between Delhi & Copenhagen – the capital of Denmark. The airline had, last week, announced thrice a week frequency between its hub and Indian Capital New Delhi to Stockholm Arlanda and this blog had given an indication of impending announcement of Copenhagen as well. (Air India opens reservations for flights to Stockholm)
The flights to Copenhagen will start from 16th September, a month after the airline starts flights to Stockholm Arlanda. With over 29 million passengers in 2016, Copenhagen is the largest airport in Nordic.
The airport is a hub for fellow Star Alliance member SAS / Scandinavian Airlines.
The timings gel well with the existing afternoon Bank. AI 157 will depart from Delhi at 1410 hours on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and reach Copenhagen at 1850 hours. The return flight will depart as AI 158 at 2035 hours on the same day and arrive in Delhi at 0745 hours the next morning. Air India will deploy its B787 Dreamliner for its flights to both Stockholm and Copenhagen. These flights will give two way connections to all the major domestic markets, further enhancing the Delhi hub of the airline.
Interestingly the flights were available on other booking channels but not on the Air India booking engine on its website.
The airline had first announced flights to Copenhagen and later moved them to Stockholm with an indication that both the destinations might come online soon. The airline is expected to induct one B787s in July, two in August and the last one in October. The airline is also expected to induct B787-9 soon after that.
We continue to wait for the airline to add frequency between Delhi and Sydney / Melbourne, launch flights between Chandigarh and Bangkok along with Kolkata and Bangkok and increase frequency between Delhi and Bangkok. The airline has also announced launch of flights to Nairobi and Frankfurt from Mumbai.
