Jaisalmer is a military airfield, a frontline air force base of the Indian Air Force with a civil enclave managed by the Airports Authority of India.

Air India, India’s leading global airline, today announced non-stop services between Delhi and Jaisalmer, starting 26 October 2025. The service will operate until 28 March 2026 to meet the seasonal tourism demand. The timings are in line with connections to European destination with a two way connectivity focus. The airline will compete with IndiGo which has a scheduled service to Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur with one flight a day. IndiGo also operates a seasonal service to Jaisalmer.
Jaisalmer is nicknamed the Golden City and is in the heart of the Thar desert, a popular winter gateway. Known for sand dunes, Fort, Havelis and some lakes, the cool climate of winter attracts tourists from India and abroad while the extremely hot summers are not ideal for travel, keeping airlines away from the airport.
Going by how Air India has built these domestic spokes starting with Bhuj, Gaya and now Jaisalmer; by next winter Air India could suppliment its Jaisalmer operations with a daily flight from Mumbai. What is surprising is that the flights are being operated by two-class A320s. Air India is slated to complete the refurbishment of the A320s to three-class by the end of this month. However, for now the airline will deploy the two-class A320s going by the booking engine.
