Edition 30

Wings India – projected as one of Asia’s premier aviation events, started on January 18. The event is being organised at Begumpet airport, Hyderabad like its past versions and will go on until January 21st. On display are the 777-9 from Boeing, India’s first A350 by Air India and the 737 MAX of Air India Express.

The event has been a great success in terms of signings and announcements, starting with Akasa Air’s order for 150 aircraft, multiple MoUs and signings by other airlines and OEMs.

The organisation on days leading up to the event has been shoddy, like most other events in this space. This includes the website not having any updates whatsoever. Be it on the agenda part or the details of static display or air display, there simply is no information. The lack of information extends to the business area as well. The website does not have a listing of companies who have their presence and information so far has been the social media handle of the event retweeting companies who are talking about their presence at Wings India.

Aero India – which is conducted every alternate year, same as Wings India, also receives flak for organisation but Wings India seems to reach a new low. For an IT powerhouse like India and an event which is organised by a leading organisation like FICCI in coordination with other entities, this definitely does not bode well.

Business events and conferences generate a lot of business. Events like these also help attract a lot of talent and future industry leaders. Such shoddy information and lack of updates for an event which is in its full aura for the first time since 2018 since both 2020 and 2022 were marred by the pandemic does not project the industry in good light.

As a country we are capable of much better organization right from the G20 summit in Delhi to past versions. With as much focus on Indian aviation, the game needs to be upped starting with the next event!
