Mumbai headquartered Akasa Air which recently completed three years of flying will expand to Southeast Asia starting next month with flights to Phuket, Thailand from Mumbai. Flights begin September 20, 2025 and operate Daily at below timings
QP618 BOM0740 – 1435HKT
QP619 HKT1535 – 1915BOM
This will be the 29th destination for Akasa Air and sixth international destination, with all others being in the middle east (Doha (Qatar), Kuwait City (Kuwait), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia)).
Competition and connections
Akasa Air will compete with Thai VietJet and IndiGo on this route. The flight timings help connect passengers from all five middle eastern flights to Phuket via Mumbai, with varying connection times. The flight timings to Phuket, a holiday destination, are also aligned to the local hotel check-in and check-out timings.
Akasa Air will see competition from twice daily services of IndiGo, which are timed to ensure feed to Amsterdam and Manchester, apart from catering to local traffic and four times a week service by Thai VietJet.
Indian carriers always had a good presence at Bangkok, but did not dare to venture beyond the Thai capital until Go Air started flights to Phuket. IndiGo soon followed Go Air and has since built a solid presence with flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru, a total of 42 weekly services. Air India operates double daily from Delhi, while Air India Express serves Phuket from Hyderabad.
Data sourced from Cirium, exclusively for this article shows that Akasa will be slightly bigger than Thai VietJet on India – Phuket routes.

Phuket is a good addition to the network just weeks before the Diwali holidays begin and leads to a spike in travel to countries like Thailand which have free visa on arrival for Indians at the moment. The airline can cash in on the volumes and has announced the flight well in advance to trigger either a sudden holiday plan or consider Akasa Air as an option for the holiday.
The airline has pushed SpiceJet out to occupy the fourth spot in Indian domestic skies but has a long way to go to make a mark against the bigger airlines like Air India group and IndiGo.
