Alliance Air, the only government owned airline in India, is expanding again. The airline will launch flights to Amravati in Maharashtra and Hisar in Haryana starting April 15, 2025 and April 14, 2025 respectively.

The airline will launch flights to Amravati from Mumbai, which will be a thrice a week operation.

9I634 AVT1640 – 1825BOM

Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

Hisar will see flights from Delhi and Ayodhya,

9I851 DEL0930 – 1010HSS
9I852 HSS1525 – 1605DEL
9I855 HSS1035 – 1235AYJ
9I856 AYJ1300 – 1500HSS

Flights operate on Fridays and Sundays, with the routing being Delhi – Hisar – Ayodhya – Hisar – Delhi.

Hisar airport (IATA: HSS) is named Maharaja Agrasen International Airport and now has an expanded runway as compared to 2021 when it saw operations by AirTaxi, the Tecnam 208 operator which operated to Chandigarh from Hisar with capacity for 3 passengers under RCS-UDAN. There are bigger plans for the airport including expansion into MRO and other areas now that it has a longer runway and a bigger terminal with scope for expansion. Chandigarh, the joint capital of Haryana and Punjab is the only operational airport in Haryana right now.

Amravati airport has been selected by the Tata group for Flight Training Academy for Air India and has been expanded recently. Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Kolhapur, Nanded, Jalgaon, Shirdi, Sindhudurg and Gondia are the other operational airports in Maharashtra.

The airline which has 21 aircraft comprising One Dornier Do-228, two ATR 42-600 and 18 ATR 72-600 has been facing headwinds with grounding. A recent parliament question saw the government answer that only six aircraft are operational. However, a look at flight tracking websites show that now there are more which are operational. The airline has been effectively deployed as the UDAN airline but has spread too thin to make profits. Being separated at the time of sale of Air India has meant that combined booking is not possible and its network runs in isolation instead of a feeder one, the original idea behind Alliance Air.

There have been talks of its sale, but not much has materialised. Until a clear plan is chalked out, times will be tough for Alliance Air. There have been many airports where the airline started operations and had to shut down or club operations due to shortage of traffic or planes or both.
